Welsh Government announces second coronavirus (COVID–19) vaccine to be used in Wales

The Welsh Government has announced the AstraZeneca coronavirus (COVID–19) vaccine has arrived in Wales and that at least 40,000 doses made available within the first two weeks. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency authorised the AstraZeneca vaccine three weeks after the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine. The Welsh Government has announced that two doses of the vaccine will be needed for each individual and it recommends prioritising the first dose to allow protection to more people in priority groups. Every Welsh health board will receive their allocation in proportion to the size of its priority population and ability to deliver, as outlined on the prioritisation list by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.
