TUC’s survey reveals employer’s failure to keep workers safe amid coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Trade Unions Congress’s (TUC) 2020/21 survey has revealed that many employers are currently failing, and have failed, to follow coronavirus (COVID-19) secure protocols to keep workers safe and are ultimately placing working individuals at risk of infection and avoidable illness.  The TUC has urged the government to improve enforcement in order to keep all workers safe as the economy re-opens.

The survey has found that:

• more than 2,100 workplace safety representatives have revealed ‘employer failures on risk assessments, social distancing and PPE during the pandemic’

• ‘more than a quarter of safety reps were not aware of a risk assessment in their workplace in the last two years - despite a legal requirement to consult them’
