Scottish Courts and Tribunals go digital amid coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Scottish courts and tribunals have altered their operational style and adopted digital practices. In order to comply with social distancing guidelines, Scottish courts have started conducting video criminal custody hearings through direct links to police stations. Indeed, remote digital hearings will be introduced for all hearings, including those for Inner House Appeals and other areas of civil business. In addition to digital hearings, the digitisation of court bundles is also being undertaken by court staff in order for hearings to proceed effectively. For those who continue to attend physical court, it has been advised that responsible hygiene and distancing practices continue to be observed.
