Satellite guided drones to deliver samples, test kits and PPE amid coronavirus (COVID-19)

The UK Space Agency has announced that the space company Apian, as part of the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme, intends to establish a network of secure air corridors for electric drones, which will navigate via satellite-enabled GPS in order to carry coronavirus (COVID-19) samples, test-kits and PPE. It is hoped that the project, based at Broomfield Hospital and supported by Anglia Ruskin University, will allow the NHS to ‘avoid call-out waiting times, free-up NHS staff, reduce unnecessary physical contact and minimise the risk of secondary transmission of the virus’.
