Ofgem announces support for prepayment and struggling customers amid coronavirus (COVID-19)

Ofgem has announced its proposals to help support prepayment customers and those who are struggling to pay their energy bills during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Under the new proposals, energy suppliers are required to offer emergency and friendly hours credit to all prepayment customers and additional credit for customers in vulnerable circumstances. Energy suppliers will also provide extra support to customers struggling to pay their bills for example setting repayment rates depending on a customer’s ability and monitoring these plans. The aim of the proposals is to reduce the number of prepayment customers temporarily going without energy and improve support for those facing financial difficulties.
