New remote jury centre to open in Glasgow amid coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) has announced that Glasgow High Court trials will resume on 13 October 2020 with juries in the new remote jury centre in Braehead, Renfrewshire in Glasgow. The trials were suspended due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The remote jury centre in Edinburgh has been open since 29 September 2020 and has capacity for five juries. The new remote jury centre in Glasgow, based in a cinema, will have capacity for 11 juries and will be able to accommodate 15 jurors, along with state-of-the-art technology that can connect to the courtroom where the High Court cases will be heard. Both the Edinburgh and Glasgow remote jury centres are the first in the UK and will eventually be rolled out to Sheriff and jury trials, which will recommence in November 2020.
