New coronavirus (COVID-19) winter funding announced by DWP

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced extra support for children and families over the winter, in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. A significant part of the support is a new £170m Covid Winter Grant Scheme, which local authorities will receive in December 2020 and at least 80% of the sum is earmarked to help with food and bills. Additionally, the Holiday Activities and Food programme has been expanded to cover the 2021 holidays at a cost of £200m, and Healthy Start payments are set to rise from £3.10 to £4.25 per week in April 2021.
