More people trying to avoid coronavirus (COVID-19) related news

The Office of Communications (Ofcom) has released findings relating to an online survey of around 2,000 people on how people are receiving news and information about the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The findings show that an increasing number of people are attempting to avoid coronavirus related news, although the majority of the population still accesses such news at least once a day.

The survey will continue on a weekly basis for the next three months. Key findings from weeks one to three include:

• almost all the UK online population access news and information about coronavirus at least once a day

• BBC services are the most used source for news and information on the pandemic

• the proportion of people finding it hard to separate true and false information about coronavirus has decreased

• an increasing number of people agree they are attempting to avoid coronavirus related news

• almost all respondents agree that the crisis has shown positive sides to society
