MHRA approves use of Pfizer coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine for ages 12 to 15

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has approved the use of the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine in children between the ages of 12 and 15, after a rigorous review concluded that the benefits outweigh the risks. According to MHRA Chief Executive, Dr June Raine, there is a ‘comprehensive safety surveillance strategy’ in place in order to monitor the ongoing safety of the vaccine. The next stage of the process will see the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation to advise on whether those between 12 and 15 will be vaccinated through the deployment programme.
