Local authorities' audit deadlines extended to November 2020 due to coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has published a letter on the Accounts and Audit (Coronavirus)(Amendment) Regulations 2020, giving local authorities flexibility in public inspections and account publication due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The letter informs local authority chief executives that:

• the publication date for final, audited, accounts will move to 30 November 2020 for all local authority bodies

• instead of having public inspection in June/July, local authorities must commence the public inspection period on or before the first working day of September 2020

The regulations should come into force on 30 April 2020.
