Jury Trial Working Group considers resumption of jury trials during coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Courts and Tribunals Judiciary has published an update on the Jury Trial Working Group (JTWG), stating it has met to considered the resumption of new jury trials at the Old Bailey, Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester Minshull Street, Reading, Warwick, and Winchester. This meeting followed the Lord Chancellor’s announcement on 11 May 2020 that new jury trials may commence in the week beginning 18 May 2020 after their suspension due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The JTWG also assessed the suitability of courts in Derby and Nottingham for the safe resumption of new jury trials, but have deemed these unsuitable at this stage.
