IEEP publishes briefing on socio-economic benefits of nature-based solutions

The Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) has published a report on the benefits of integrating nature-based solutions into Europe’s recovery plan post coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This focus also is necessary to stop the international decline in biodiversity and to tackle the climate crisis. The report sets out how nature-based solutions can create ‘economic opportunities, employment, and multiple public health and wellbeing benefits'.

The report sets out three recommendations to improve uptake of natured-based solutions in the EU:

• effectively implement integral EU legal obligations

• put in place substantial legislative measures for strict ecosystem restoration

• invest more in nature-based solutions
