Guidance on PPE and cleaning waste disposal during coronavirus (COVID-19) issued

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has published guidance detailing how to dispose of personal and business waste in England during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It explains how personal protective equipment (PPE) should be disposed of and sets out extra precautions that should be taken when a person who is self-isolating is disposing of their PPE. Businesses are advised to provide extra bins and ensure they are emptied frequently, but any cleaning waste can be disposed of as normal. The key point stressed in the guidance is that PPE should be placed in ‘black bag’ waste bins, not recycled.

The guidance does not apply to hospitals, primary care providers, care homes or home care.
