Guidance issued on registering enduring power of attorney amid coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) has published guidance on how to register an enduring power of attorney (EPA) amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The OPG guidance details when an EPA can be registered, what to do if unable to register an EPA, and provides advice on giving notice to the donor, their family members and other attorneys. In particular, the guidance stresses that social distancing guidelines should be observed when giving notice to the donor. Attorneys unable to serve notice by post or email for example, will need to apply to the Court of Protection for permission to be excused from serving notice to the donor.
