Government announces further support to India amid coronavirus (COVID-19) spike

The UK government has announced that it will send 1,000 more ventilators to India in an effort to help combat the surge in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, in addition to the 200 ventilators, 495 oxygen concentrators and three oxygen generation units sent in April 2021. The Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty, and the Chief Scientific Adviser, Patrick Vallance, have offered advice to health officials in India on how to tackle the ‘world’s worst surge’ in coronavirus levels. The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, is due to have a virtual meeting with Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on 4 May 2021 to agree on a range of commitments for UK-India relations, including the approach taken to the struggle against coronavirus.
