Future plans for public health must consider long-term symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Local Government Association (LGA) has stressed the importance of recognising the long-term health impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19), which should be considered in future planning for public health and social care services. Nearly one million people have reported Long COVID symptoms, which include fatigue, shortness of breath and muscle ache, all of which could contribute to greater demand on councils’ public health services and connected services like housing or transport. According to the LGA, we must gain a deeper understanding into ways of mitigating the lasting impacts of coronavirus on health, especially for those with underlying conditions, such as obesity.
