EMA approves new Moderna coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine production site

EMA approves new Moderna coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine production site

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has announced that its human medicines committee (CHMP) has given its approval to a new site, located in Monts, France, for the manufacture of the Moderna coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine. This follows the CHMP approving two further sites in the USA on 4 June 2021. It is expected that the three new production sites will lead to between 1–2 million additional vials of the vaccine each month for use in the EU. The CHMP has also given a positive opinion in support of opening alternative sites for batch control and batch testing.
