DHSC announces deployment of coronavirus (COVID–19) surge testing in Leeds

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has announced that targeted areas in Leeds will have frequent testing for coronavirus (COVID-19) made available in an effort to control and suppress its spread. DHSC will collaborate with the local authority to deploy additional testing and genomic sequencing in parts of Leeds where the variant first identified in South Africa has been found. People living within the target areas are strongly encouraged to take the test when offered, regardless of whether they have symptoms or not. Positive cases will be sequenced for genomic data to help understand the new variants and their spread.
