DCMS publishes notice on information about ERP amid coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has published a notice on information about the Events Research Programme (ERP). The ERP aims to examine the risks of coronavirus (COVID-19) transmission at events with larger audiences and explore methods to can enable individuals to attend a range of events safely. The first phase of 10–15 science-led pilots will be run in April–May and will be tested across a range of settings, venue types and activities. The pilots will inform decisions of the safe removal of social distancing measures from step four of the roadmap to ease lockdown restrictions. DCMS has said that the programme will be overseen by an industry-led steering group and co-chaired by Sir Nicholas Hytner and Davis Ross.

DCMS states that the pilots will investigate different approaches to social distancing, ventilation and test-on-entry protocols that could help ease opening and increase participation. Evidence gathered from the pilots will be used to shape government policy to bring a phased return of fuller audiences to venues and events across England.

Information on the ERP can be found here.
