CTSI publishes CEO response to article on scams amid coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute's (CTSI) chief executive, John Herriman, has published a response to the article ‘My friend was the victim of a scam – and cuts mean she can do nothing about it’, written by George Monbiot. Herriman has said that CTSI aims to communicate their essential contributions to public protection, and that according to action fraud reports, over £2.5bn has been lost to scams since the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown began. However, he suspects that the actual figure is much higher due to unreported scams. Herriman has urged the public to always ‘report a scam, no matter how big or small, as this aids our cause in bringing the importance of consumer protection to the government’.
