CQC issues update on regulatory approach amid coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has issued an update regarding its regulatory approach going forward amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The CQC explains that as health and social care services are now entering a period of increased pressure, ‘it is only right that CQC continues to be flexible in [its] approach’. At present, the CQC will continue to only undertake inspection activity in response to ‘a serious risk of harm or where it supports the system’s response to the pandemic’.

In its update, the CQC also details how it is supporting the system and its approach to monitoring, explaining for example, that it will support the coronavirus vaccination programme through ‘rapid registration, coordination between sectors and sharing intelligence, helping to ensure it can be delivered quickly and safely’.
