Coronavirus (COVID-19)—Welsh self-isolation support payment scheme extended

The Welsh Government has announced the extension of the £500 coronavirus (COVID-19) self-isolation support payment scheme until March 2022. The scheme, which was set up in November 2020, helps support those on low pay when told to self-isolate by the NHS Wales Test Trace Protect service.

The Minister for Finance and Local Government, Rebecca Evans, has earmarked an additional £4m to the existing £8m Local Government Hardship Fund to extend the scheme. According to the Welsh Government, 13,200 support payments have been made since November 2020.

The Welsh Government has said that in addition to the support payment scheme, pilot schemes have been set up to further support people asked to self-isolate. These include food, essential goods, mental health, and financial support.
