Coronavirus (COVID-19)—steps for exceptional assurance applicants experiencing technical issues published

The Home Office has updated its guidance webpage 'Coronavirus (COVID-19): advice for UK visa applicants and temporary UK residents' on 23 November 2020. It sets out instructions for individuals who are experiencing technical difficulties with the online form when applying for exceptional assurance.

The guidance webpage states that individuals should email the request for exceptional assurance to cihassuranceteam@homeoffice.gov.uk. The email should contain 'Request for assurance' in the subject line and the following personal information:

  • full name
  • date of birth
  • nationality
  • Home Office, GWF or any other reference number
  • type of visa
  • expiry date of visa
  • reason for the request

The email should also be accompanied by supporting evidence to demonstrate that the applicant cannot leave the UK (eg a positive coronavirus test result).

The following persons should also contact the Home Office by email:

  • those who have previously completed the online form and have not yet received a response, if their flight is imminent
  • those with a previous grant of exceptional assurance but who are unable to leave by the assurance date previously given to the Home Office. Such persons must reapply for a grant of exceptional assurance using the email process above
