Coronavirus (COVID-19)—social media giants vow to curb vaccine disinformation

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, alongside the Department of Health and Social Care, has reported that it has agreed a package of measures to reduce coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine disinformation with social media platforms. Platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Google have agreed that ‘no company should profit from or promote COVID-19 anti-vaccine disinformation’ and have committed to responding to flagged content speedily. The platforms will collaborate with authorities to promote scientifically accurate messages and will also join new policy forums to improve responses to mis/disinformation and to prepare for future threats.
