The Lord President has announced that Scotland will have revised court arrangements starting Tuesday 12 January 2021 as a result of the new variant of coronavirus (COVID-19). Criminal courts will continue with the most serious trials in the High Court and Sheriff Court. The Justice of the Peace Court and the Sheriff Court will adjourn any summary trials, but will continue with new custody cases and summary custody trials. Courts that have operated remotely throughout the pandemic, such as the Bail Appeal Court for criminal cases or the Court of Session for civil cases, will continue to do so. There is a formal review of these arrangements on 15 February 2021, although it is expected that they will continue until 28 February 2021.
