Coronavirus (COVID-19)—REACT-1 report shows advantages of being fully vaccinated

The Department of Health and Social Care has published the findings of the latest REACT-1 report, which shows coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rates are three times lower for fully vaccinated people. It also suggested double vaccinated people are less likely to pass the virus to others.

The main findings are as follows:

• unvaccinated people had a 1.21% prevalence rate for coronavirus, compared to 0.40% for vaccinated individuals

• vaccinated people had a 50–60% reduced risk of infection

• of the positive samples sequenced for variants, 100% were the Delta variant

• prevalence is nine times higher in 13–17 year olds than in the previous report

• 3.84% of fully vaccinated persons who reported recent contact tested positive, compared to 7.23% for unvaccinated individuals
