Coronavirus (COVID-19)—police working group outlines crime tackling priorities

Europol has announced the meeting of the fourth Working Group on COVID-19 Crime Threats and Law Enforcement Responses. The working group brings together chiefs of police from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK to monitor coronavirus (COVID-19) related crime.

At the virtual meeting, the working group outlined the following areas of priority:

• the risk of criminals taking advantage of coronavirus vaccine campaigns to sell fake vaccines, particularly using the dark web

• the online sexual exploitation of minors due to an increase in production and distribution of online child sexual abuse materials during the pandemic

• an increase in fraud schemes owing to the economic hardship imposed by the pandemic
