Coronavirus (COVID-19)—ICO guidance on data protection updated

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has updated its guidance on data protection issues relevant to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to include four new case studies.

The new cases studies which have been added to the guidance are:

• case study 5: Collecting data ‘just in case’ for disclosures to a contact tracing scheme

• case study 6: People objecting to the disclosure of their information to a contact tracing scheme

• case study 7: Schools collecting and sharing information for contact tracing purposes

• case study 8: Disclosing personal data to a contact tracing scheme where organisations have a duty of confidentiality
