Coronavirus (COVID-19)—Home Office updates guidance for UK visa applicants

The Home Office has updated its guidance webpage 'Coronavirus (COVID-19): advice for UK visa applicants and temporary UK residents' to clarify that the concession permitting workers and temporary workers to start work (where they have applied for leave before the expiry of their leave and not yet received a decision on the application) will apply where the Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) was assigned before 1 January 2021 or if the individual is applying under the Health and Care Visa route. The guidance for sponsors was also updated confirming that whilst temporary reductions in salary are permitted, a sponsored migrant's salary cannot be reduced below the minimum salary threshold or the 'going rate' for the occupation. Both sets of guidance were updated at the end of the day on 23 December 2020.
