Coronavirus (COVID-19)—‘Greener Regeneration Scheme’ encourages local regeneration

The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has published ‘the Greener Regeneration Scheme’ detailing the potential for the government to ‘empower local authorities’ and development partners to lead on the revitalisation of towns and cities following coronavirus (COVID-19). The scheme presents an approach which has the potentials to increase construction jobs, trigger a ‘local-led economic recovery plan’ and produce benefits for communities. According to the CLC co-chair, Andy Mitchell, the coronavirus crisis is 'a chance for a gear-shift in how we deliver construction in the UK, and the opportunity not only to build back better, but to build back greener'. The publication follows a call by the Association for Consultancy and Engineering to empower local authorities.
