Coronavirus (COVID-19)—government increases support to self-employed

The government has announced that it is increasing support to the self-employed during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic with the UK-wide Self-Employment Income Support Scheme, enabling self-employed individuals to receive 80% of their average trading profits for November 2020. Grants will be paid faster than planned, as the claims window will open at the end of November 2020, rather than the middle of December 2020. The increase in support brings the level of support to £4.5bn for the self-employed between November 2020 to January 2020. Government loan schemes will also be available and have been extended until the end of January 2020.
