Coronavirus (COVID-19)—families in need supported with £170m Grant Scheme

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has put in action the £170m Covid Winter Grant Scheme (CWGS), aiming to support vulnerable families through winter amid coronavirus (COVID-19). Local authorities have received allocations of extra funding at the end of November 2020 and have began providing vulnerable families with supermarket vouchers, winter clothing and funding for utility bills. Distribution of funds to local authorities is determined by the size of the population and the level of deprivation. The scheme will run until the end of March 2021.

Secretary of State for Work and Pension, Thérèse Coffey stated: 'No child should have to worry about food or warmth this winter. We have worked with councils across England to ensure the £170 million Covid Winter Grant delivers well-targeted support as quickly as possible, primarily focusing on heating and eating for disadvantaged families with children.'
