Coronavirus (COVID-19)—DfE publishes guidance for education and work placements overseas

The Department for Education (DfE) has published guidance for providers managing and participants taking part in educational and study placements overseas, including the Turing Scheme, Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps placements. This guidance includes information on what individuals will need to do during a coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak when planning education and work placements abroad. The DfE has advised that ‘all education providers managing mobility as well as anyone participating in international mobility in education should follow the relevant Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) travel advice’ and that individuals should be aware that the situation can change rapidly.) travel advice’ and that individuals should be aware that the situation can change rapidly.

The DfE has said that the guidance is for:

'• higher education providers

• post-16 further education (FE) providers

• further education colleges

• sixth form colleges

• other further eductaion providers

• school and college senior leaders

• local authorities and multi-academy trusts (MATs)

• teachers who are involved in managing educational placements abroad

• organisations that manage education and work placements abroad for UK students, learners and pupils

• students in higher education, further education, vocational education and training, and schools who are participating in study or work placements abroad'
