Coronavirus (COVID-19)—New Council Regulation extends general meeting deadlines

As a result of the challenges that coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to bring, a Council Regulation has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union providing temporary measures for European companies (SEs) and European Co-operative Societies (SCEs). The temporary measures provided for by Regulation (EU) 2020/699 extend the general meeting deadlines of SEs and SCEs, permitting a general meeting to be held ‘within 12 months of the end of the financial year, provided that the meeting is held by 31 December 2020’, if the meeting’s original date was to be held in 2020. The Council Regulation comes into force on the day following its publication date in the Official Journal of the European Union.

For information on the prior proposed introduction of such measures, see: LNB News 19/05/2020 1.
