Coronavirus (COVID-19)—kickstart Scheme opens for applications from employers

The Department for Work and Pensions has announced that the Kickstart Scheme, developed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19), is now open for applications from employers. The £2bn scheme forms part of the government’s plan for jobs and aims to create hundreds of thousands of new, fully subsidised six-month work placements for individuals aged 16-24 who are claiming Universal Credit and are at risk of long-term unemployment. Employers under the scheme will receive funding for the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, in addition to associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum auto-enrolment pension contributions. Placements are likely to commence in November 2020.
