Coronavirus (COVID-19)—ICO guidance on developing tracing apps

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has published guidance aimed to support technical design teams during the development of coronavirus (COVID-19) tracing apps and associated activities. The guidance, which applies the design and default principles and includes best practice recommendations, will also support risk management professionals working in privacy and data protection, information security, compliance and operational risk. The purpose of the app is to use ‘proximity data’ to notify users when they have been in recent proximity with another user with coronavirus symptoms (both official or self-diagnosis). The ICO recognises the approach must strike a balance between using technology to combat coronavirusand acting in the public interest.
