Coronavirus (COVID-19)—Holiday lets firm offers refunds following CMA action

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has confirmed that Vacation Rentals, a major holiday lets company, is now offering refunds for cancelled bookings associated with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The action to offer refunds comes after the CMA announced that it would be focusing on the holiday accommodation sector as part of an investigation into cancellations and refunds. The CMA’s COVID-19 Taskforce has received approximately 4,500 reports regarding UK holiday rental companies, and while Vacation Rentals has now given the CMA a formal commitment that customers will have the option of a full refund, other holiday lets firms have not yet agreed to do the same, and therefore the CMA’s investigation is continuing.
