Coronavirus (COVID-19)—Global mobilisation for a green recovery of the economy

The UK Delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has addressed a letter to the Chair of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Committee highlighting its commitment to increase climate ambition. Despite its severe consequences, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is described as ‘an opportunity to protect and restore nature, reducing our exposure to deadly viruses and climate impacts’. The UK Delegation to the OSCE also mentioned that while the Conference of the Parties (COP) 26 was rescheduled to November 2021, actions should not be delayed. On 5 June 2020, World Environment Day, the global COP26 campaign ‘Race to Zero’ will notably be launched ‘to mobilize leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions and investors – all committed to the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 the latest’.
