Citizens Advice has reported that over a third of British adults (36%) have been targeted by scammers since the beginning of the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown. A poll conducted by Citizens Advice found that certain groups were at an increased risk of being contacted by a scammer. It found that, of those with a disability or long term illness, 45% said they had been targeted. Additionally, 50% of those at an increased risk of coronavirus or were shielding had been contacted, while over half (54%) of those who have lost personal income due to the virus have also been contacted. Citizens Advice and the Consumer Protection Partnership have launched their annual Scams Awareness campaign to encourage people to share and report their experiences and to look out for others.
