Committee to examine support for home-educated children amid coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Education Committee has announced that it is to examine how home-educated children are currently being supported in their learning and what can be done to ensure that these children are receiving a high-quality education amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The Committee is also to look at the duties of local authorities and a possible role for inspectors in relation to ensuring standards. According to figures from March 2020, more than 60,000 children in England are currently being educated at home. However, the Committee notes that this figure is probably too low, as parents are not required to register their home-educated children with the local authority.
