CIEH raises concerns on easing of coronavirus (COVID-19) measures

The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) has responded to the anticipated easing of lockdown measures in England on 19 July 2021 that will make wearing facemasks advisory guidance rather than a legal requirement and remove the one metre rule. CIEH sets out concerns that enforcement and compliance of social distance measures will be impacted, making them impossible to be enforced. The article stresses that environmental health professionals have supported businesses in upholding government guidelines on coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Northern Ireland Director of CIEH, Gary McFarlane, said: ‘With enforcement already difficult whilst social distancing and mask-wearing is a legal requirement, any move to make these things a matter of guidance will make it impossible for our members to enforce them’.
