Future Barristers Battle it out in London

The College of Law Birmingham Triumph At Final Of The First LexisNexis Green Book & BPP National BVC Mooting Competition

London, 6 July, 2009 – LexisNexis today announced The College of Law Birmingham as winners of the inaugural Green Book & BPP National BVC Mooting Competition, defeating BPP London in a close fought moot to take the title. The final, held at BPP Holborn, was judged by Lord Neuberger and showcased the very best of legal talent from the country’s finest aspiring lawyers.

The winners, Amy Jackson and William Hotham from The College of Law Birmingham, walk away with a prize of £500 and two years free subscription to the prestigious Civil Court Practice, known as the Green Book. In earlier stages of the competition they defeated representatives from Nottingham and BPP Leeds in the quarter then semi-finals before masterfully arguing their way to victory in London.

Amy and William said of their win, “Taking part in the Green Book Moot has been a truly enjoyable experience. When we heard Lord Neuberger was to judge the final it made us all the more determined to reach it! Giving submissions before Lord Neuberger was an exhilarating experience and a true honour. Sarah Cooper who appeared for College in the earlier rounds shares in our success. We are all grateful to LexisNexis and BPP for this opportunity to demonstrate and develop our passion for law.”

This year’s competition, to celebrate the launch of Civil Court Practice 2009 (the Green Book), saw eight  teams from six colleges taking part, with early stages judged by top judges and barristers. LexisNexis and BPP will continue to work together on future competitions to showcase the very best of talent from lawyers in training.
