LexisNexis is Founding Partner in Scheme to Support A-Level Students from Deprived London Boroughs

LexisNexis enters partnership with FutureReach to help students achieve successful futures

LONDON, 23 November 2012 – LexisNexis UK (www.lexisnexis.co.uk), a leading provider of content and technology solutions, today announced that it is the founding partner of a scheme to help students from deprived London boroughs. In partnership with FutureReach this academic year, LexisNexis will be delivering intensive employability skills training in schools in some of London’s most deprived boroughs, which will help prepare sixth form students making the transition from school to university to understand and acquire the skills they will need to secure a job on graduation.

LexisNexis and FutureReach are offering these innovative training workshops to over 120 students at four schools in London’s most disadvantaged boroughs. These sessions will include facilitation by professional actors to bring an emphasis on fun and active learning. The programme will equip the students with a practical understanding of what skills top companies look for and how to build them, the best ways to showcase existing achievements on CVs, basic business etiquette and interview techniques. These days a degree is necessary but not sufficient for some of the top jobs, and by working with students to raise their awareness of the skills they will need to build whilst at university, these workshops aim to level the playing field for them. .

Laurie Hibbs, LexisNexis UK HR Director, commented: “LexisNexis is committed to widening access to the professions for the next generation of talent. We believe everyone has an equal right to success, regardless of background. FutureReach works to connect high-potential A-level students to market-leading companies and move the needle on social mobility via in-school training workshops and ‘pre-university’ internships.”

Laura Coffey, director of FutureReach, said: “We are delighted that LexisNexis have come on board as the first founding partner of this new training programme to equip students for success. We are looking for more partners to step up and work with us to do something positive about youth unemployment – these students need support to understand what they need to do now to prepare for bright futures and compete in a fierce job market.”

LexisNexis head of LexisPSL in-house Sophie Gould has been working with FutureReach on the design and delivery of these sessions.

Laurie Hibbs added: “It is our hope that this early-intervention will help to level the playing field and unleash a chain reaction of success.”
