LexisNexis UK extends its compliance portfolio by launching Cordery, a new business which brings together content, technology and advisory services for compliance professionals

LONDON March 24, 2014: LexisNexis UK has invested in a new business, Cordery Compliance Limited (trading as “Cordery”), to help compliance professionals and General Counsel effectively manage the ever-increasing regulatory burden.

The business is focused on helping clients across industries manage compliance risks and opportunities by offering an integrated solution to compliance professionals.

Cordery will provide compliance solutions based on technology, content and advisory services. The business will use LexisNexis’ capabilities in content and technology solutions combined with the expertise of compliance-focused legal advisers.

Cordery is licensed as an Alternative Business Structure (ABS) by the Solicitors Regulation Authority in order to provide its solutions and services with the quality, confidentiality and privilege required to effectively address compliance issues.

Cordery is an evolution of LexisNexis UK’s existing product suite, which builds on the company’s initial success in compliance solutions in recent years, such as its LexisPSL Practice Compliance offering adopted by hundreds of law firms across the UK.

Christian Fleck, Managing Director for LexisNexis UK & Ireland, says: “Legal & Regulatory information has been our lifeblood for nearly 200 years. Driven by the ever increasing regulatory burden, we have had great success with practical compliance solutions in the last couple of years. With Cordery, we are taking the next step and we are looking forward to providing a wider solution to compliance professionals across industries.”

Jonathan Armstrong, Cordery business leader, joins the business from law firm Duane Morris’ London office, where he was a Partner specialising in compliance and technology law.

Jonathan Armstrong says: “I'm excited to be part of Cordery and what we plan to achieve. For the past 20 years, I have advised heads of legal, General Counsel and compliance professionals in dealing with the challenges of navigating ever more complex regulatory requirements. For in-house lawyers particularly dealing with compliance is often a lonely experience. Compliance will be our heart and soul and we will help our clients effectively manage the compliance burden.”

Notes to editors:
The Cordery brand name is an extension of one of LexisNexis UK’s long-standing works on compliance matters, “Cordery on Legal Services”, the leading commentary title on law firm regulation and compliance, first published in 1878 and still up-to-date and on offer today. Cordery on Legal Services will continue to be published by LexisNexis and is managed separately from the new Cordery Compliance Limited business.

Since its inception in 1818, LexisNexis UK (then Butterworths) has provided law firms, corporations, accountants, government and other professionals with vital legal and tax information for a variety of purposes, including the need to ensure compliance with the prevalent regulatory requirements of the day.

LexisNexis UK’s recent expansion in Compliance include the LexisPSL online information module on Practice Compliance, a highly successful information service on practical compliance matters for legal services providers, used by customers to manage the new compliance requirements following the Legal Services Act 2007. Supplementary services, such as a compliance health check solution, complement the company’s existing compliance portfolio.
