Claire Debney
Chief of Staff and Director of Legal Strategy, Shire, Co-founder of Mosaic

Claire was appointed Chief of Staff and Director of Legal Strategy at Shire in July 2016; a newly created role focusing on operational excellence through learning, development, communications and optimizing systems and processes for the Shire legal team.

Prior to her role at Shire, Claire spent ten years at Reckitt Benckiser (RB) where she was, most recently, VP General Counsel for Group Legal Affairs & Compliance. Claire joined RB from Gillette/P&G in 2006 as European General Counsel. At RB she managed complex legal matters across a wide range of functions globally, with responsibility for major investigations, litigation, compliance and the Group's corporate and commercial operations.

She created i-Legal, the award-winning portal that utilised technology and tools to enhance the delivery of in-house legal services, as well as building a bespoke leadership program, The Academy, for RB’s Legal Department.


Matthew Glover
Legal Operations Manager, Colt Group

Matthew Glover heads the Legal Operations function within the Colt legal team. Matthew joined Colt in 2007, originally as legal project manager but has since worked closely with the General Counsel to develop the legal operations function. The function is responsible for all systems and process supporting the legal function as well as acting as the main point of contact with the business on project matters and new product development. Matthew is responsible for the development and management of key law firm relationships and the management of the legal budget and played a leading role in the design and development of the pan European relationship with Baker & McKenzie.

Prior to joining Colt, he worked for Viatel from 1999 initially as a commercial manager within the division constructing Viatel’s pan European network, as an information management specialist responsible for document management and network inventory management systems and as Carrier Relations Manager during the roll-out of Viatel’s voice over IP service in the UK.


Emma Hearse
Legal Capability, Operations and Communications Lead, Accenture

Emma is a member of Accenture’s Legal Operations team, where she manages the operational and strategic initiatives for Accenture’s Legal Compliance function. Her responsibilities include financial management, strategic business planning, project management and overall process improvement.

Since joining Accenture in 2000 Emma has worked in various areas including Contract Management, Investment Banking, IT Transformation, Cost Reduction and Process Reengineering.

Prior to joining Accenture Emma worked as an analyst for Deutsche Bank and Royal Bank of Canada.


Victoria Lockie
SVP Assistant General Counsel, Pearson

Vicky is Pearson's SVP AGC for Strategy. Pearson is the world’s largest education company with over 35,000 employees in more than 70 countries helping people of all ages to make measurable progress in their lives.

After qualifying into the Intellectual Property department at Clifford Chance Vicky moved in-house and joined Pearson in 1997 initially to support Pearson's growing education business in Europe Middle East and Africa. Her remit grew until she was responsible for leading a team providing legal support to all of Pearson’s education businesses outside of North America dealing with a broad spectrum of strategic legal matters, business critical contracts, major litigation and significant integrity issues. She now works alongside Pearson’s first global GC leading Pearson's legal operations team with responsibility for implementing a major change programme across the global legal function involving substantial process improvement and new systems for e-billing, contract management and e-signature. She has also created and leads a centrally managed ‘shared services’ team of contracts professionals in various locations across the US.

In her ‘spare’ time Vicky is renovating an old barn in Essex where she lives with her two teenage sons. To keep sane she runs and does the (occasional) triathlon.


Faye Moran
Legal Operations Manager, Pearson

Faye is a Legal Operations Manager at Pearson where she has responsibility for a number of operational and strategic initiatives. She has a particular interest in Process Improvement and Technology Implementations, particularly around self-service and automation.

Faye joined Pearson in 2006 originally heading up one of their contract teams. Before that she worked in various Intellectual Property Manager roles, focusing on IP protection and exploitation, most recently as IP Manager at the School of Pharmacy, University College London.


Smita Oza
Director Legal Operations, VeriFone

Smita is a Senior Legal Director, Operations for Verifone Inc., for the past 5 years where she is a member of the senior management team on the operational and strategic development within the business. She provides advice to improve process and efficiencies, manages budget and outside counsel, leads projects on commercial transactions, compliance, regulatory requirements and litigation and provides training and development. She was the first legal appointment for the EMEA region in Verifone and has set up the Legal function in her region. She manages a team in the UK and Europe. She has also set up Diversity & Inclusion initiatives within the region.

She was appointed as Chair of the Commerce & Industry Group in 2016 and Chair of the London Region for the past 8 years where she has set up a mentoring group, training and development for sole & small in-house teams, arranged networking and social events.


Kerry Phillip
Legal Director, Vodafone

Kerry Phillip is Legal Director, Vodafone Global Enterprise, with responsibility for all legal matters for Vodafone’s UK operating company. Kerry leads a team of 25 lawyers and paralegals.

Prior to joining Vodafone, Kerry held senior positions at several telecoms companies including 2 years as General Counsel at Azzurri, 8 years as a senior commercial lawyer at O2, and 2 years as a senior lawyer at BT.

Kerry qualified as a corporate lawyer at Linklaters where she spent 4 years (3 in Paris) before moving to BT, where her in-house career began. Kerry is married with 3 children and a dog and loves food, travel, languages and sports.

Alexander has been the Director Ops Comms of the Philip Morris International Law & Compliance Department for the last 6 years. He has 20 years of experience in operations in professional services environments. By background he is a lawyer and has an MBA.


Tim Shutler
Head of Legal – Operations, Rydon Group Ltd

Tim is a solicitor working at Rydon Group HQ and overseeing the legal contracts with many of Rydon’s clients. These contracts are usually worth many millions of pounds and the legal negotiations are complex and detailed. Tim joined Rydon in July 2002 having previously been a paralegal at a firm of solicitors in London.

At school, he studied Law, Business Studies and Maths to A-level and from there went on to Cardiff University to complete a degree in Law. This was followed by a one-year Legal Practice post graduate course. Tim came to Rydon as a trainee solicitor and completed a two-year training contract with Rydon. This led to him qualifying as a solicitor in 2004 and to becoming a full member of the Rydon legal team.


Maurus Schreyvogel
Strategic Assistant to Group General Counsel, Novartis

As Head of Operational Excellence for Novartis Group Legal, Maurus Schreyvogel is responsible for maximizing the value of the Novartis Legal and Intellectual Property functions by delivering results through global initiatives, processes and systems. His current responsibilities focus on simplicity and consistency on a global and cross-divisional scale by way of operational excellence at all levels in Legal operations and IP asset management. Mr Schreyvogel began his legal career at a Zurich law firm in 2002 and joined the Corporate IP department of Novartis in 2004. In 2007, Mr Schreyvogel transitioned to a two-year rotation in Finance and Audit and in 2009 he joined the Corporate Legal department as Program Manager. In this role he led strategic, cost-saving Legal and IP initiatives such as the implementation of a global spend management program, the establishment of preferred law firm panels and the introduction of legal knowledge and matter management.
